Everyone suspects that good governance leads to financial effectiveness and the delivery of shareholder wealth. But until recently, there has been no hard evidence that this is the case. Moreover, while the call for governance in finance is urgent, steps toward responsible change and best practice are unclear. Companies are only now moving towards solutions and method.

In the spring of 2005, CFO Asia Research Services, in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers, launched a research program to explore the relationship between finance, governance and growth. The goal of this research was to discover how finance executives’ roles are changing amid developing pressures from other areas of the business, and to understand their priorities for enhancing the effectiveness of the finance function.

This report presents the findings of a survey of 400 CFOs and senior financial executives from 13 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region. This direct-questionnaire-based research has been supplemented with in-depth, one-on-one interviews with executives at 16 companies spanning a range of company types, industries and locations.
